MATHEMATICAL CHALLANGE ONE : HOW A PRISONER CAN ESCAPE?
Once there were four prisoners accused of committing a crime. Their jail was full and there was no way that the jailer could accommodate them, so he decided to throw one puzzle at them. If any one of them could answer the puzzle correctly, all four of them would be released. Otherwise, all would be put in the jail. Each prisoner was given a hat which was either black or red. Three of them were kept in a row and the fourth was kept in a separate room. The jailer explained that there were two black hats and two red hats. Each one in the row could see the hat on the head of the prisoner in front of him but not his own or of the prisoner behind him. The one in the separate room could neither see nor be seen by others .They could not communicate with each other and when they speak they have to speak either red or black. They were given 30 minutes to discuss among themselves how they might escape the punishment. The question is, how the prisoners escape?
